As we all know, Bulgaria took their first ever victory at the Eurovision Song Contest, this year held in Vienna , Austria with Dara and her song “Bangaranga”. With the news that we are off to Burgas for next year’s contest, we at Eurovision Ireland, decided to create a series to have a look back at Bulgaria’s history at Eurovision and also Junior Eurovision. There’s no doubt that they have brought us some interesting acts over the years they have been in the contest. Today we look at 2013.
2013 Elitsa Todorova and Stoyan Yankulov ” Samo Shampioni “
Elitsa and Stoyan were no strangers to Eurovision , having represented Bulgaria in Helsinki in 2007, where they qualified for the grand Final and finished in an very creditable 5th place . They were internally selected by the Bulgaria n broadcaster BNT , Three songs were put forward for selection by a Jury and public vote.Initially “Kismet” was chosen but it was withdrawn two months before the contest due to copyright issues and it was replaced by the runner up “Samo Shampioni”. Sadly ,this time Elitsa and Stoyan did not achieve the success they had in Helsinki. They failed to qualify from their semi final , finishing 12th in the second semi final .
Junior Eurovision
Bulgaria did not participate in Junior Eurovision 2013.
What do you think? Did you like Bulgaria’s 2013 Eurovision entry and is it still one of the Eurovision songs you listen to today ?
