It’s now three weeks since Bulgaria took their first ever victory at the Eurovision Song Contest, this year held in Vienna , Austria with Dara and her song “Bangaranga”. With attention now turned to the prospect of Bulgaria hosting the contest in 2027, we at Eurovision Ireland, decided to create a series to have a look back at Bulgaria’s history at Eurovision and also Junior Eurovision. There’s no doubt that they have brought us some interesting acts over the years they have been in the contest. Let’s take a look at where it all began , with part one , covering 2005 !
2005 Eurovision Song Contest -Kaffe -“Lorraine
Bulgaria began their journey in the Eurovision world with their National broadcaster, BNT organising a National Final. Kaffe won the golden ticket to Eurovision, which in 2005 was held in Kyiv , Ukraine . In those days the semi finals had only just been introduced the previous year, so Bulgaria had to participate in the Semi Final on 19th May 2005. Unfortunately the song failed to stand out amongst other, stronger entries and Bulgaria failed to qualify for the Grand Final , finishing 19th in the Semi Final.
2005 Junior Eurovision
Bulgaria did not enter the 2005 Junior Eurovision, which was held in Hasselt , Belgium
What do you think? Do you think Bulgaria should have qualified in their first year at Eurovision?
