Eurovision 2020

#BULGARIA : A History of the 2027 host nation at Eurovision -Part 4

As we all know, Bulgaria took their first ever victory at the Eurovision Song Contest, this year held in Vienna , Austria with Dara and her song “Bangaranga”. With attention now turned to the prospect of Bulgaria hosting the contest in 2027, we at Eurovision Ireland, decided to create a series to have a look back at Bulgaria’s history at Eurovision and also Junior Eurovision. There’s no doubt that they have brought us some interesting acts over the years they have been in the contest. Today we look at 2008.

Deep Zone & Balthazar won the right to represent Bulgaria at the Eurovision Song contest 2008, which took place in Belgrade, Serbia . They won the Bulgarian National final Bŭlgarskata pesen v „Evroviziya 2008”. At the contest in Belgrade , Bulgaria unfortunately, failed to qualify for the Grand Final but they were pretty close as they finished 11th in their semi final. Incidentally, 2008 was also the year where the contest ,for the first time ,held two semi finals instead of one and this format still continues up to the present day.

Krestian Kresteva represented Bulgaria at the 2008 Junior Eurovision which took place in Lemesos, with her song “Edna Mechta “.Sadly , she finished in 15th and last place with 15 points.

What do you think? Did you like Bulgaria’s 2008 Eurovision and Junior Eurovision entries and is it still one of the Eurovision songs you listen to today ?
