#Romania Confirms Eurovision 2027 Participation Following Historic Top 3 Finish

Eurovision fans, rejoice! Romania is riding high on its recent podium success and isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
Following Alexandra Căpitănescu’s show-stopping performance of “Choke Me” which racked up a staggering 296 points to secure 3rd place  and equal the nation’s all-time best result—Romanian public broadcaster TVR has officially greenlit the country’s spot for Eurovision 2027.
Key Takeaways from the Board Meeting
The decision was made during today’s TVR Board of Directors meeting, passing comfortably with 11 votes in favor and just one abstention. Here is what we know so far:
TVR executives emphasized that committing early gives them the runway needed to plan a robust national selection (*Selecția Națională*) and attract top-tier songwriters and artists.
With Bulgaria set to host in May 2027 following their victory, a neighboring host country makes logistics, travel, and fan turnout far easier for the Romanian delegation.
As with most public broadcasters, official participation remains subject to final approval of TVR’s internal 2027 budget, but the green light signals strong institutional backing.
“We want to build on this extraordinary momentum. A top-three finish proved that when we match brilliant talent with proper staging, Romania can go toe-to-toe with the very best in Europe.”*
TVR Board Statement
After years of mixed results, Romania seems to have found its winning formula. Will 2027 be the year they finally take home the glass microphone?
