As we all know, Bulgaria took their first ever victory at the Eurovision Song Contest, this year held in Vienna , Austria with Dara and her song “Bangaranga”. With attention now turned to the prospect of Bulgaria hosting the contest in 2027, we at Eurovision Ireland, decided to create a series to have a look back at Bulgaria’s history at Eurovision and also Junior Eurovision. There’s no doubt that they have brought us some interesting acts over the years they have been in the contest. Today we look at 2006.
2006 “Let me cry “Mariana Popova.
In 200, Marian Popova was selected via the Bulgarian broadcaster, BNT’s National selection “Bŭlgarskata pesen v „Evroviziya 2006” to represent the nation at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, Greece . Unfortunately, Mariana was drawn in the dreaded second spot in what was then just one semi final and failed to qualify for the Grand Final. The results later revealed that she only came 17th in the Semi Final. The contest that year was won by Finland with Lordi and “Hard Rock Hallelujah “
Junior Eurovision 2006
Bulgaria did not participate in the 2006 edition of Junior Eurovision, which was held in Bucharest, Romania .
What do you think? Do you think Bulgaria should have qualified in their second year at Eurovision?
