As we all know, Bulgaria took their first ever victory at the Eurovision Song Contest, this year held in Vienna , Austria with Dara and her song “Bangaranga”. With attention now turned to the prospect of Bulgaria hosting the contest in 2027, we at Eurovision Ireland, decided to create a series to have a look back at Bulgaria’s history at Eurovision and also Junior Eurovision. There’s no doubt that they have brought us some interesting acts over the years they have been in the contest. Today we look at 2007.
2007 “Voda ” ( Water) -Elitsa Todorova & Stoyan Yankulov
Elitsa and Stoyan were selected through Bulgaria’s National Final to represent their country at the 2007 contest in Helsinki, Finland. They opted to perform the song in Bulgarian at Eurovision . At the contest , they qualified from the Semi Final for the Grand Final and at the Grand Final finished 5th with 157 points, giving their Bulgaria their best result up to 2007.The contest that year was won by Serbia , with Marija Serifovic , singing “Molitva”
Junior Eurovision 2007
2007 was also the the year that Bulgaria entered Junior Eurovision for the first time . As with the adult Eurovision, Bulgaria selected their Junior entry by a National Final. The winner was Bon-Bon with their song “Bonbolandiya”. At the Junior Eurovision Song contest held in Rotterdam at the Ahoy arena ( the adult Eurovision song contest would later be hosted here , in 2021) Bulgaria finished in 7th place with 86 points, not bad for a debuting country ! The winners of JESC that year were Belarus with Alexey Zhigalkovich singing “S druz’yami”.
What do you think? Did you like Bulgaria’s 2007 Eurovision entry and is it still one of the Eurovision songs you listen to today ?
