Malta is the small island with possibly the biggest Eurovision heart. The island and their National Broadcaster PBS would dearly love to host Eurovision. They have announced the dates of their National Selection for Eurovision 2014 and through our good friends at escflashMalta.com, we know some familiar artists that have submitted entries for consideration.
PBS (Maltese National Broadcaster) have received a record-breaking 210 entries for their Maltese National Selection. The success of reaching the Grand Final for 2 years in a row and a Top 10 finish this year, has seen interest from former National and Eurovision Contestants.
As we speak there is an expert panel evaluating the submissions received. 20 songs will be selected to compete in the Maltese Semi Final on February 7th. 14 of these acts will then compete in the Grand Final on February 8th. The names of the performers and composers of the lucky 20 Semi Finalists will be released in the next few days. Eurovision Ireland plan on being live in Malta for their selection in February.
Now for the interesting news. Several National former contestants have submitted entries to PBS – Richard Edwards, Davina Pace, Janvil, Tiziana Calleja, Eleanor Cassar and Kaya. Even more interesting is the news that Maltese Eurovision Representatives Miriam Christine (1996 – “A Woman’s Heart) and Fabrizio Fanielo (2001 “Another Summer Night” and 2006 “I Do”) have also entered songs for selection. Furthermore there could be more Eurovision Representatives in the running.
Has Chiara returned again is the question? PBS removed their ruling that you could not enter the national selection for 5 years if you had represented Malta at the actual Eurovision song contest. That would have made Chiara not eligible for consideration until the 2015 contest.
Do you think she will return with her new dance sound?
