Irish Broadcaster RTE have just informed Eurovision Ireland of their new structure at the station. The Executive Producer of the Eurovision Song Contest of 1995 – John McHugh – is the new Head of TV Entertainment at the state Broadcaster.
This becomes very interesting as John McHugh will be leaving his current post as Executive Producer of the Late Lat Show – that has been the vehicle for the Irish National Selection for several years now. Might the hosting of Eurosong by the Late Late Show be changing too? We will let you know once Mr McHugh takes the reigns of his new role.
Previous roles Mr McHugh has held are “Head of Entertainment” at Channel 4 and a number of positions in entertainment commissioning at the BBC including “Senior Commissioning Executive” and “Joint Acting Controller”.
There were also stories revolving around Shayne Ward having been asked to be involved in the Irish National Selection for 2014. This took place on the Derek Mooney Radio Show. We have been in touch with the show and have been advised they this was mere speculation at present and no communication has been made to Ward.
Remember that we had suggested several weeks ago that Shayne Ward would be an ideal candidate for the Eurosong Final. In case you missed the article – see here
We are in contact with RTE – so we will keep you updated on Eurosong 2014.
Until then we are looking forward to the final of “The Hit” where Johnny Logan will be competing to win another Song Contest with the Adam Earls song “Prayin”.
