#HALL OF FAME: Welcome to inductees seven and eight

Here at Eurovision Ireland, we want to celebrate those most illustrious people who have made our favourite TV show the thing that it is today.

In each edition, we’ll induct two performer or personalities from somewhere in Eurovision land. These two inductees won their respective countries’ Best of… votes.

So who’s first?

Iceland have never won the contest, but have managed two runner-up spots. In 2009 Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir, better known to us as Yohanna, went to Moscow and managed one of those spots. She’d already won her semi-final, which was the first time her country had ever finished top of anything Eurovision. Yohanna finished a long way adrift of a certain Norwegian, so in any other year the Grand Final victory might have been hers. She’s tried again since, but to date this is Yohanna’s finest hour.

Inductee Number eight comes from Finland. We all love the country, with their fun language and propensity for rock music. They have one monstrous win under their belts, but deserve credit for trying. The Hall of Fame inductee is the unique Saara Aalto. As you’ll know, she represented Finland in 2018. In that year’s edition of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, Saara sang all three songs, with Monsters triumphing. Here’s her Grand Final performance in Lisbon.

Stay tuned from more inductees coming soon.
