Our sweet diva Conchita added an exclusive cover of Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ into her set list on Friday night in Linz. In true Conchita style it was a flawless performance, full of emotion and perfectly staged. It’s not the first time we’ve seen her sing it, you might remember that just a couple of months after her Eurovision victory, Conchita joined her friend Ruth Lorenzo on stage at the Shangay festival in Madrid.
Other Eurovision artists paid tribute too, including Dami Im who also covered ‘Purple Rain’ on Channel 7’s The Morning Show in Australia. Dami had famously sung this song on The Voice and reprised her cover in tribute to Prince.
Others shared their words on social media with Barei (Spain 2016), Cheryl Baker (UK 1981), Amir (France 2016) and Ruth Lorenzo (Spain 2014) posting these messages…
It was Ruth’s over of ‘Purple Rain’ on The X Factor in the UK that turned me into a fan of hers and I’ve loved her ever since. Loreen (Sweden 2012) turned to Instagram to post this touching comment and picture of Prince too…
All I can say is we’re done 2016, stop taking away our beloved entertainers, it’s only April and so many have gone so far this year. I’ll leave the last message to Conchita, who posted this on Instagram, a sad-faced emoticon says it all.
