If you’re an avid follower of the European Broadcasting Union, it won’t have escaped you that there’s not just the Eurovision Song Contest that is one of its major productions. One of its others is the Junior version – known to us as JESC. Is it right, you may ask? Well, it’s here to stay, so it’s only right that we report on it.
As you’ll see from the logo, this year’s JESC is coming from Bulgaria – Sofia to be exact – and takes place on 21 November. The keen-eyed will have spotted that Bulgaria didn’t actually win last year in Malta. Italy did win, but declined the chance to host the 2015 JESC. So BNT of Bulgaria were only too happy to take it on. Eurovision Ireland will be there and over the coming weeks we’ll cover the event in detail.
So far, 15 countries have said they’ll be there. These are Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia and Ukraine. There may be more to come. Ireland is debuting in Sofia, so there will be some Celtic charm brought to the show as only the Irish know how.
So stay tuned, and we’ll start bringing you news in the coming days. And just so you know, here’s last year’s winner from Italy.
