Who will represent Sweden at Eurovision 2015? Well we began our ‘Meet the Contestants’ last week with Heat 1.
Today we look at those in Heat 2. Who will be wearing the golden boots of success at Melodifestivalen this year?
HEAT #2
MARIETTE – DON’T STOP BELIEVING
After making it into the final 4 of Idol in 2009, MaryJet (as she was then known) left the limelight for a while. Recently re-launching as Mariette, she’s been providing guitar and vocals on tour with Melodifestivalen 2014 contestant Ace Wilder, who narrowly missed out on going to Copenhagen last May. Perhaps Ace can give Mariette some tips for getting to the final?
EMELIE IREWALD – DÄR OCH DÅ MED DIG
Emelie came 4th in the Swedish talent show True Talent in 2011. One of the judges was 3 time Melodifestivalen contestant Danny Saucedo, who also happened to be Emelie’s childhood boyfriend… awww! 2015 marks Emelie’s first foray into Melodifestivalen with a song she wrote herself.
LINUS SVENNING – FOREVER STARTS TODAY
Rising to fame during Melodifestivalen 2014, Linus’ song Bröder may have placed 5th during the contest, but immediately went to #3 in the Swedish Singles Charts. His follow-up single Dansa Sakta also proved a big hit. At this year’s Melodifestivalen, Linus will be singing in English.
SAMIR & VIKTOR – GROUPIE
This young duo comprises of 24-year-old reality TV star Samir and 19-year-old fashion blogger Viktor. Don’t let their age fool you – these two were responsible for Success, a massive summer hit in Sweden that reached #1 in both the Swedish iTunes and Swedish Spotify charts. They might be young, but clearly they know what people like!
NEVERSTORE – IF I WAS GOD FOR ONE DAY
A punk rock band with 4 albums under their belts, Neverstore have also been nominated for the MTV European Music Award for Best Swedish Act, not once but twice. While clearly accomplished in their own right, could pairing this band with the writer responsible for Lena Meyer-Landrut’s winning entry for Germany in 2010 be a recipe for success?
MAGNUS CARLSSON – MÖT MIG I GAMLA STAN
2015 will mark the 8th (!!) occasion that Magnus has participated at Melodifestivalen! Taking part every year between 2000 and 2007 as part of bands Alcazar and Barbados, and even as a solo artist, he’s also been submitting songs each year ever since but has never made it back into the contest – can we give this guy a medal for determination!?
MARIE BERGMAN & SANNE SALOMONSE – NONETHELESS
The undisputed Queen of Melodifestivalen, Marie has entered the contest 3 times (twice as part of the group Family Four in 1971 and 1972, and once with Roger Pontare in 1994) and has won each time – just let that sink in for a moment! Sanne is also a Melodifestivalen veteran, coming 7th in 2005 with Higher Ground.
And Sanne
So there you have it, the first 14 acts taking part in Melodifestivalen 2015. Have we already listed Sweden’s next Eurovision entrant? Stayed tuned, soon we’ll take a look at the other contestants taking part in Heat #3 and Heat #4 – or as they say in Sweden: håll ögonen öppna!
Who are you interested in hearing from Heat 2? There is certainly a mixture of musical genres and artists – would they suit Eurovision? Let us know!
