Yesterday saw the much-anticipated video release of San Marino’s First Lady of Music – and soon to become Eurovision History Maker – Valentina Monetta’s new song “L’Amore Verra” or “Love Will”
Yes, in advance of her Eurovision entry for 2014, Valentina has released a new song. So taken by the video and song, we had to do more that just write a review. We had to write an “Open Letter” to Valentina.

Ciao Valentina,
Saluti da Irlanda. We will spare our blushes as Italian is not our strongest talent and continue in English.
It was with delight that we opened the video link to your new song “L’Amore Verra”. We have always followed you and your music before your time at Eurovision and had hoped that this day would come – when you would release a Jazz song and delight your growing fan base with the purity and passion that you have for Jazz.
“L’Amore Verra” is as charming as it is addictive. From the first notes of you sing in the recording booth, we can see the joy in your face and hear in your voice, that this is exactly the style of music that you enjoy. It is a wonderful throw back to the Jazz singers of the 1950’s and 60’s like that of Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Gil Evans, Mary Lou Williams, Melba Liston, Billie Holliday and Nina Simone.
Though it is Jazz, it has an accessible quality to it. It is not forced of laboured and is easy even for the non Jazz listener to enjoy the funky and playful tones to your voice. Add to this equation is a charming and fun video that does not detract from the song but adds to the playful nature of it. We have all been in your shoes looking for love – and sometimes in the wrong places!
We urge you to be true to your Jazz roots at Eurovision 2014. Stand your ground and don’t try to think what will work at the Contest. Go with your Jazz Heart and trust your instincts. No need for elaborate costumes, digital effects or conceptual ideas – go with what the Jazz Singer in you says and that will resonate in your performance, just like it has in “L’Amore Verra”.
Even when you sang “The Social Network Song” in your own Jazz style, the song became more than just a pop song about the internet. You can see that you believed in the song when in the Jazz style.
Stay true to the Jazz, Soul and Funk in you and you will be successful in your quest to bring San Marino to the Grand Final of Eurovision.
Rimani Jazz, Rimani Anima e Rimanere fedele a te
Congratulazione Valentina
Saluti da Ireland

Unfortunately it’s unlikely that her 2014 entry will be in this style. Ralph Siegel had nothing to do with this song, and he always tries to make songs that would only work in the world of Eurovision.
Hence we had to write an open letter Ben. SMTV need to stand by their girl and get the best style of song for her
