STOP THE PRESS – HAVE I HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE? READ ON!As we had reported earlier in the month NDR (German National Broadcaster) was changing the format of their selection process for Malmö this year. Lena and Roman were new members to the German Music scene so in a reversal this year NDR have called in the Big Guns and have announced 11 of the 12 finalists in their national selection. Here you have it – Artist and Song Titles

  • Ben Ivory – The Righteous Ones
  • Betty Dittrich – Lalala
  • Blitzkids mvt. – Heart On The Line
  • Cascada – Glorious
  • Finn Martin – Change
  • LaBrassBanda – Nackert
  • Mobilée – Little Sister
  • Nica & Joe – Elevated
  • Die Priester feat. Mojca Erdmann – Ave Maris Stella
  • Saint Lu – Craving
  • Söhne Mannheims – One Love

I was happily scrolling through YouTube finding some videos for each of the artists so that you could see the genre of music that they usually sing in the hope of giving you an insight into what they might offer us in the German national final. To my surprise I actually found 3 of the songs on-line – and even more surprising is that I found that one of the songs has been on-line since APRIL 25th 2012 – THAT IS BEFORE THE EUROVISION IN BAKU!!!

Yes 3 of the artists have released videos for their songs already – all shiny and new until I dug a little closer.

The 3 songs that you can see on-line are

Die Priester feat. Mojca Erdmann – Ave Maris Stella (Released on-line 3 weeks ago)

Finn Martin – Change (released on-line 3 months ago)

Mobilée – Little Sister (released on-line 3 weeks ago – OH NO 7 MONTHS AGO)

Yes it looks like Switzerland may not be the only country to have some controversy, as their neighbour Germany maybe in a spot of bother! Yes Mobilée released this video for their Eurovision Hopeful song “Little Sister” 3 weeks ago. What a wonderful song and video it is. I would actually really like this song in the contest. Sure see for yourself

Imagine my surprise when I found this video of the “same song and band” on line for over 7 months ago – APRIL 25th – before Eurovision in Baku where they were performing the song live. See for yourself!

Now remember the controversy we had back in 2010 when Ukraine changed their entry and then had to change it again when the second song they chose had been on-line before the eligibility date for entries – Is this a similiar case? I am just pointing out what I can see and asking the question?

Anyways we have 2 other German entries (no problems with release dates as far as I know)

Die Priester feat. Mojca Erdmann – Ave Maris Stella (Released 3 weeks ago)

A sensational mixture of 3 priests and a stunning female operatic singer Mojca Erdmann. This is like a song from Enigma meeting a Classical piece of music. The hairs on my neck were standing on edge. Probably not to everyone’s taste but it would add variety and quality to Eurovision.

Finn Martin – Change (released on-line 3 months ago)

This is another wonderful song and reminds me of Roman Lobb who represented Germany this year. This is a catchy middle of the road pop song that is very easy to remember – which is key to a Eurovision Winner. This again could do very well at Eurovision and score well with both Jury and Public Voters. See for yourself

I hope we see Mobilée – Little Sister in the final but I would imagine NDR will have checked this.

Let us know?

  1. Yes, they publish the songs some weeks before, because 33% are Radio-Internet Votes, 33 % Televotes and the other 33% are Jury votes. I’m very happy that Germany take it serious with quality songs, so I can recommend you to vote and watch the german national final.

    • Oh I will be watching and writing on the German Final as it is always very good. A lot of very interesting artists in the contest this year. Remember Ireland gave Roman 10 points this year and the song was in the Irish charts just like Sattelite too

      • They said all the songs are compliant to rules, We will see all of them, with their songs. (except of The song by the Priesters they have a new compostion). There was a meeting with the Eurovision Reference group and they accept it, to make the whole ‘Eurovision published rules’ more realistic. This makes Eurovision more atractive for Newcomers, because all of them use the internet as a platform to promote themselves. And their is no competitive advantage here, because none of the songs have many clicks or are hits in the past. Many greetings!

        • Thanks for translating – much appreciated.
I am happy that Mobilee will be in the final as it is a very good song and I agree it is very important to attract new artists to the Eurovision. I just hope that none of the other countries object should Mobilee get to go to Malmo.
Do we know if NDR will be releasing the complete songs on the internet before the National Final?
          Thanks again for your updates
