#ESC2013: Swedish musician Avicii has died
Swedish musician, DJ and producer Avicii has died in Oman aged 28. Born Tim Bergling in Stockholm in 1989, his association with Eurovision was in 2013 in Malmö, when he collaberated with Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus to compose an opening theme for the show entitled ‘We write the story’. It was Benny & Björn’s first major venture back into Eurovision since 2004.
Avicii had been a regular in the charts since 2009. His biggest hit was ‘Wake me up’, also in 2013, which made Number One all over Europe and beyond. A number of his other hits charted and reached Number One, including ‘Bromance’ (in Belgium), ‘Levels’ (in Sweden), ‘I could be the one’ (in the UK), and ‘Hey brother’ (in Sweden, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland).
In recent years, he’d cut back on touring due to various health issues.
Here’s that theme he wrote with Benny & Björn in 2013, which opened the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.
Eurovision Ireland’s thoughts are with Avicii’s family at this time.
