Eurovision fans, we have a suprise for you!
Today we’ll share with you our interview with the lovely Rebecca from Norway. She’s one of the finalists of Melodi Grand Prix 2018 and we absolutely love her song!
Have a look of what she told us.
Hey Rebecca! Thank you so much for taking the time for this interview. First of all congratulations for making it to Melodi Grand Prix 2018! Can you tell us more about youself? Who is Rebecca?
Thank you so much!! I am a 19 year old musician from Norway competing in this year’s Melodi Grand Prix. I have been singing and writing songs for some years now and just graduated from a music school in Oslo. I am actually taking a gap year working in a towboat shipping company at the moment and now I’m in MGP as well! But I’ll continue studying music next year, probably out of the country. I like being creative, either with drawing, DIY, decorating – and music is my biggest passion.
Can you tell us the story behind “Who We Are” and how your collaboration with Mørland came about?
A couple of years ago I wanted to record a song and my english teacher recommended Mørland! So he produced an early single of mine and I’ve done some backing vocals on his songs throughout the years. So he asked me if I wanted to sing his song to attend this year’s Melodi Grand Prix. And here we are!
“The song is about putting yourself first and not being afraid to be who you are meant to be instead of always trying to please everyone else. It’s about daring to love yourself and not being afraid to stand up for yourself, no matter who you love, what you look like or who you want to be. Other people’s opinions aren’t as important as your happiness! We should praise diversity and not be afraid to live your life the way you want to.“
What would it mean to you to win Melodi Grand Prix and represent Norway at Eurovision Song Festival 2018? And who would be the first person you’d call after the announcement?
It would mean so much to me, I have been a big fan of Eurovision for as long as I can remember! It would definitely be a dream come true and impossible to imagine how I would react. Most of my family and friends are attending the show in Oslo Spektrum so I know all of them will be there to see themselves if I was to win. And no matter how it goes I’ll have them there by my side which is great. But I would probably call my best friend who lives at Karmøy, my sister or my mom or dad first.
Can you tell us what your favourite Eurovision song from all its history is?
If I’d have to to choose just one, it’s gotta be «Rhythm Inside» by Loïc Nottet, I still listen to it on a regular basis! But I have to say, I’ll never get tired of «Lipstick» by Jedward. That song always pumps up any party.
I would like to thank every single person listening to “Who We Are” and commenting on both the song and music video. You inspire and motivate me everyday and I truly appreciate each and every one of you!
I would just like to say this; the most impressive thing you can do is daring to love the person you are and not being afraid to stand up for yourself, no matter who you love, what you look like, your dreams and goals in life or who you want to be. Other people’s opinions aren’t as important as your happiness! We should praise diversity and you should not be afraid to live our life the way you want to. Thank you all so much and I hope you have a great Eurovision celebration this year!
