Ireland – Who will be the Irish representative at Eurovision 2014? Well you don’t have to wait much longer to find out the answer to that question as the finalists will be officially announced shortly. February 3rd is the date that the Mentors have to submit their final version of their entry to RTE for the Eurosong National Final for 2014.

Speculation runs high across many sites that artists from Samantha Mumba to boyband Out of The Blue to name a few – could be in the running. However what do the betting odds have to say on the matter? We took a look at bookmakers Paddy Power and they show where the money is being placed by the public

  1. A semi-forgotten reality show winner who reached the dizzying heights of number 37 in the charts is the best that Irish bookmakers think we can do? Seriously? Not to knock the guy or anything, but this doesn’t bode well…

  2. Heaven help us if this is the motley crew being bandied around! Same old names, nothing inspiring (Imelda May excluded). Where are the bands? The Strypes, Bréag, Balkan Alien Sound, Afiniti, have these artists even been approached orare they beyond reach or imagination , perhaps it is too ‘naff’ for them to represent their country and get exposure to over half a billion people? We have great performers out there and I don’t necessarily mean (over) seasoned pros! Kathy Crinion is a wonderful singer-songwriter. What do we have here? Podge and Rodge? Brian Kenneday? Linda Martin? Good grief we are going backwards if this is the best list we can come up with. Keith Hanley would need a damn good song if he is to get the ticket, something contemporary and modern to suit his unusual voice and not something stuck in the 90’s! I can but keep my fingers, toes and everything else that I can cross, crossed! Not expecting much though so that I might just be pleasantly surprised. (ooh, I just seen a pig fly past my window!)
