It is with mixed emotions that we bring you the news that we told you all last week – that many people criticised us for doing – but unfortunately we were correct when we told you that Slovakia was withdrawing from the 2013 contest.

National Broadcaster STV has conformed today that they will not take part in Malmo this year.  A mixture of bad results and budget restraints can be seen for the reason to withdraw for this year. I truly hope that they do not stay away in 2014 as they have placed a lot of effort in a National Selection Process and to be fair they have not been lucky with the votes at Eurovision.

It is widely accepted that Slovakia should have made the final in 2010 in Oslo with Kristina singing the wonderful ethnic pop song “Horehronie

Also it should be noted that the calibre of the songs in their National Final are very strong. Even in 2010 they Kristina had a dead heat with her rival Mista singing the stunning ballad “Emotions” that too would have been a big hit at Eurovision.

Again luck was not on Slovakia’s side in 2011 when they entered “The Twins” who I am sure could have qualified for the final if a certain other pair of Irish Twins (Jedward) didn’t steal the show in Düsseldorf. Again The Twins should have been in the final, but sadly not.

So let’s hope that we get to see Slovakia back at Eurovision in 2014 and making the final like they deserve! Will you miss the Slovakian National Final and Entrant?

Will we have enough countries for 2 Semi Final’s at this rate!

  1. I really, really don’t think that Jedward being there had anything to do with TWiiNS not qualifying. They may be twins, but that’s where the similarity ends.
