#BIRTHDAY: 5 Sept – Alessandra from Norway is 24

Every Eurovision brings out the fan favourite. The song that the fans love, and if you’re deep inside the Eurovision bubble you think it could win at a canter. And then Eurovision Grand Final night comes along…

Today’s birthday girl Alessandra Watle Mele – known mononymously – had very high hopes when the circus turned up in Liverpool. With her Norwegian and Italian heritage, she maybe thought that she could capture both the Nordic and the Mediterranean vote. To be fair, she wasn’t far off, as she scored very heavily off those areas in her semi-final, despite opening it. Then onto the Grand Final where only one country’s televote failed to give her a score (we won’t name names), but it was the jury vote that held her back. Still, her country (Norway, not Italy) have only managed three better placings this century. Alessandra may not be the queen of kings, but she could easily pass as a grand duchess.
