The EBU, the European Broadcasting Union, are considering a change to public voting, ahead of the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, in Burgas.

FOLLOWING on from the rule changes to the Eurovision Song Contest, from 2027 onwards, the EBU are now considering changes to how the public vote, also from 2027 onwards. Introduced for the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, were limited to 10 votes (down from 20) per payment method, voting online, via SMS or telephone (dependent on the rules of specific countries). Votes did not have to be spread out across countries, so viewers could use all 10 votes on one country if they chose to do so. From 2027, the voting method is been examined at been entirely online only and rules introduced stating up to possibly three countries been voted for.

In a letter sent to EBU members, signed by EBU Chief Executive Jean Philip De Tender and Eurovision Reference Group Chair Ana Maria Bordas, the following was stated:

“Our research points towards two changes: moving the public vote entirely online and requiring people to vote for more than one entry, for example their three favourites.

This work is already underway, with the hope of having it ready by 2027. We believe that these changes will increase engagement and the willingness to vote and help dilute the effect of mobilised bloc voting, without compromising fairness or trust.”
