TVNZ, the New Zealand national broadcaster, have assessed broadcasts of both the Eurovision Song Contest and Eurovision Asia.
The Post, a New Zealand media outlet, has reported that TVNZ has confirmed that it has discussed acquiring the rights to broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest in the country – but participation is currently not been considered. A spokesperson for TVNZ, had the following to say:
“We’ve assessed the opportunity but not moved forward. We would need to weigh up the financial impact and logistical requirements against audience interest.”
In regards to an appearance or participation, the Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Paul Goldsmith, had the following to say:
“It would be an enormous opportunity for our artists to promote New Zealand as a creative powerhouse with global reach. I’d hope New Zealand could showcase its creative industries in all their forms.”
