#BIRTHDAY: 23 Apr – Marty Brem from Austria is 67

As we know, our friends in Austria have been eager participants for many years. Despite a few wobbles here and there, they’ve still managed three wins to date. How soon can they manage a fourth?

Some of those performances have been memorable – some intentionally and some not. Massive red ribbons, calypso songs, and burning pianos. In 1981, today’s birthday boy Martin ‘Marty’ Brem performed as a soloist. He’d been part of a foursome called Blue Danube the year before, so knew the Eurovision ropes. Anyway, in Dublin was joined on stage by four dancers, one of whom also sang. Now you need to watch the performance to see what is, well, performance art. It didn’t completely please the juries, but this three minutes is guaranteed to be in any Eurovision clip show.
