#BIRTHDAY: 4 Apr – Maribelle from the Netherlands is 66

Pretty soon, the fans of our favourite TV show are due to be gathering in Austria for two weeks for thrills, spills and the occasional piece of quality music.

Cast your mind back to 2020, when things were quite different as we were meant to be in the Netherlands. It turned out not to be, so this is a tenuous link for us to still dabble in Dutchness with birthdays from that country. Today’s birthday girl Maribelle (née Marie Kwakman). What can we say about this song? It’s a classic and was very arguably hard done to in 1984. She hadn’t even had to travel that far, staying in lovely Benelux. In what was some very odd voting, our Maribelle only scored from seven juries, amassing 34 points. What was Europe thinking? Especially when you look at some of the songs that beat her.
