SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster, have revealed that they will not be participating at the 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
There has been much talk surrounding Swedish participation since 2020. Back in 2020, Safa Safiyari, Manager of SVT Barn – the broadcaster’s children’s channel, had the following to say:
“After the break that was taken in 2014, we have raised the question on several occasions and tested whether the break should continue or not, it has basically happened every two years. But as the offer constantly evolves, we have come to the conclusion that “The Junior Eurovision Song Contest does not fit the mix we want in our content. In any case, not the total offer.
The door has not been completely closed to participate in the future.”
In terms of 2024, SVT have not specified the reasons behind their non-participation.
