Joseph Reynaerts, known by his stage name Reynaert, has died as a result of COVID-19. He participated for Belgium in the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, held at the RDS Simmonscourt Pavilion in Dublin. He performed the song Laissez briller le soleil which he co-wrote with Dany Willem and Philippe Anciaux. All of the song’s points came from France.
Reynaert began his career singing at the age of 18. In 1978, he won the International Festival of French Song of Spa with the song Cerf-vols. He released a second single, Pas Assez, in 1982. An album followed in 1984.
Reynaert gradually withdrew from the music industry. He then became director of the Flémalle Cultural Center, then that of Soumagne.
