And we are off! Lulea calling for Semi Final Three of Melodifestivalen 2020. David, Lina and Linnea walk to the stage from backstage and then burst into song. Song turns into a bit of sketch too.

It’s time to meet tonight’s line-up.

Mariette – “Shout It Out”

Lit soley by one spot light to begin with, Mariette kicks off tonight fantastically. The stage then fills up with bright lights and Mariette goes into full, energetic, dance mode. Connectivity is made with the camera and audience when required. Vocals and production just perfect – Mariette should see another Final!

Albin Johnsén – “Livet börjar nu”

The stage is draped in pulled-back curtain type material. Albin is joined by four backing dancers in this mid-up tempo entry. With the stage lit in white for a second consecutive entry, the brightness certainly draws you in.

Drängarna – “Piga och dräng”

Oh, we have Swedish hard rock crossed with country music. Line dancers are at the front of the stage, while plenty of lighting is in the background of the raised set – this is where Drängarna based throughout the performance. The band are either leather clad or sparkly clad.

Amanda Aasa – “Late”

Lime green lighting and letterbox camera shots… reminds me of Belgium of recent years at Eurovision – just a brighter colour. Amanda is joined by two backing dancers – all three are in white. Camera trickery is in play here as what the audience see in Lulea is not what the television viewers will see, with all the special effects.

Anis don Demina – “Vem är som oss”

Oh no, not rap. Eurovision really doesn’t like rap at their Contest. Purple really doesn’t do much for Anis’ figure neither. For the latter half of the performance, Anis is joined by four backing dancers. I did like the magazine front page trickery at the start – probably my only positive.

Faith Kakembo – “Crying Rivers”

Faith is in a glittery, shiny navy blue number. “Crying Rivers” is a nice soulful and easy listening number. Dry ice is in use, with a single beam of light on stage. Throughout the performance, further beams of light appear, mainly on the LED pillars, making the stage change between brightness and darkness. Wow! This deserves a place in the Final.

Mohombi – “Winners”

Mohombi is surrounded by additional LED screens ala Stone Henge pillars on stage. He is dressed in white, with the exception of his blue cord-like jacket. A very dark stage is complemented by the bright LED pillars and screens – with the use of whites and pinks.
