Eurovision 2019

#LITHUANIA Live Blog of Eurovizijos Atranka 2019 from 20:00 CET #JoinUs

Geras vakaras Europoje! Geras rytas Australija! Labas pasauli!

Tonight Lithuania is going to find out their representative at Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv! That’s right, it means it’s time for Eurovizijos Atranka 2019!

As for you dear readers, sit back and relax, and let Eurovision Ireland’s own Mr. B entertain and inform you. As always, feel free to tell me what you think and give your opinions about tonight’s Final and who your favourites are! I might even shout out to you in the blog

Tonight 8 songs will compete for that chance to wave the Lithuanian flag in Israel later this year in May.

Henry & Tommy Modric – “Neverpart”

Justina Budaitė-Junà – “Strength of a Woman”

Monika Marija – “Light On”

Jurgis Brūzga – “CTRL ALT DELETE”

Alen Chicco – “Your Cure”

Antikvariniai Kašpirovskio Dantys – “Mažulė”

Jurijus – “Run with the Lions”

Jurgis DID & Erica Jennings – “Sing!”

The winner will be decided by combining both the jury and the televoting scores. As usual, it’s a 50/50 split between both.

You can watch the show live here, but I hope you’ll have a look at what I’m ranting writing here 😀

You know the drill: Just refresh this page to get the comments, points of view and all that Eurovision Ireland goodness you know and love!

LIVE BLOG STARTS HERE!!

Hello everyone and thank you for joining our Live Blog!

Be sure to get some snacks, a drink and maybe a warm blanket, because the show is about to start in a few minutes.

I’m Mr. B and will try to keep you informed with my comments on what’s happening at the final of Eurovizijos Atranka 2019!

I have a feeling that Lithuania can finally achieve a great result in Tel Aviv if they make the right decision. Stay close and I’ll tell you exactly who do I want to win tonight.

We’re live from Vilnius! Wellcome to Eurovizijos Atranka 2019!

Are you excited about tonight’s show?

We are now presented the acts competing tonight. Who is your favourite?

And of course our hosts

This is the jury that will have a 50% saying in tonight’s outcome!

If you are in Lithuania tonight, these are the numbers to vote for your favourite!

Now the first act of the night

Alen Chicco – “Your Cure”

Alen surely knows how to captivate one’s attention. The song is intriguing and the staging as well (we can see traditional costumes and dance moves). With a mix of pop – opera, this act is a standout, but I’m not sure it is cohesive enough. Looks a bit messy, though his vocals were good.

Justina Budaitė-Junà – “Strength of a Woman”

Justina was a backing vocalist for Donny Montell in 2016. She’s now trying to convince the Lithuanian audience that she can do it on her own.

Her vocals are on point and she is trying to seduce us with her outfit and dance moves. The strength of a woman should be more than the eye can see, right?

She reminds me of a younger Aguilera, but not quite at that level. Whilst I appreciate her effort, I don’t think this song would be remembered for the right reasons in Tel Aviv.

We don’t have a Green room, but the presenter is talking with the acts that will go on the stage in the near future.

Henry & Tommy Modric – “Neverpart”

The act reminds me of ‘The war is not over’ and that’s not a bad thing. It is a slow ballad and I’m enjoying the calm effect that it gives me. What bothers me is that one singer sings with conviction (maybe too much – without connecting with the camera), whilst the other one doesn’t give me the same vibe. Would have liked to see a better cohesion (and other outfits for a Final), but overall not bad.

Jurgis Brūzga – “CTRL ALT DELETE”

A very inspired title I would say. Jurgis seems Lithuania’s answer to Robin Thicke 🙂

With one exception, the song is very repetitive and monotonous. I suppose I will be singing this later, but for the wrong reasons. I did enjoy watching Jurgis and his dancers, but I’m afraid the song might not be strong enough to convince Europe to vote for it in May. Still, I applaud his effort.

We are reminded again the numbers to vote tonight.

Jurgis DID & Erica Jennings – “Sing!”

Is it wrong to like this song? Yes, it has a 50’s kind of vibe but makes me smile. And is it wrong again to think of Serhat and Valentina Monetta when I’m watching them? 😀

I would sing along if the song would actually have a chorus. Ironically, no?

Monika Marija – “Light On”

It’s time for the favourite of the night. I honestly heard this song for the first time only today in preparation for this blog. It made me tear up. Let’s see how Monika will transmit tonight.

Mesmerizing! This song tells a story and all of us that have lost someone dear to our soul can relate to. We always have to fight in this life and this song is motivational!

Monika’s vocals are on point and I’m all emotional. Lithuania, if you want to place high in Tel Aviv, you know what you have to do! Leave the Light On!

At the moment Monika is first at televoting. Let’s keep it that way!

Time now for an ad break.

And we’re back!

Here are the votes so far from the public!

Antikvariniai Kašpirovskio Dantys – “Mažulė”

This act is certainly very entertaining. If Eurovision was only about funny songs, then this one would have been perfect. Dare I say this is the Lithuanian ‘Macarena’? I’m tapping my feet to this song as I’m writing these words 😀

I love it! And the public too 😀 This was fun to watch! If Monika doesn’t win, then this act needs to!

We’re back again NOT in the Green room, to talk this time with Jurgis & Erica who are in 2nd place with the public vote.

Jurijus – “Run with the Lions”

Jurijus has a good stage presence and his vocals are good tonight. He is another fan favourite. In my opinion, if you are presenting a ballad at Eurovision, you have to be believable and to connect with the public. I’m not a native English speaker but I’m having problems understanding some parts of what he’s singing. The song is Ok at best, but I feel nothing hearing it. I might change my mind, but this doesn’t scream winner to me. Having said that, I appreciate his effort. He could certainly be a contender for ‘Eurovision’s next top male model’ 🙂 It was a good effort; let’s see how well it will do.

Now The Roop are presenting their song.

Wish I knew Lithuanian to understand what are they talking in this video 🙂

On the other hand, James just told me that Hungary has chosen Joci Papai again. I’m happy as it was my favourite from A Dal.

We’re now watching Carousel’s performance of That Night – The Latvian winner.

Time now for the first recap of the night. Vote, vote, vote!

Another beautiful singer from Lithuania pleases our ears 🙂 I didn’t catch her name.

The lines are still open so you can still vote! (And another recap)

Lithuania, STOP voting now!

We are now presented a short video about Tel Aviv and the preparations for Eurovision.

Awww! Ieva now on the stage with “When We’re Old”. What a beautiful song!

I remember seeing this live in Lisbon and falling in love with the whole act…

Time to see the votes of the public. Monika is second…

The jury is presenting their points now! Monika gets only 10 points from the Jury as well.

Jurijus gets 12 points from the Jury and wins Eurovizijos Atranka 2019! Congratulations and best of luck in Tel Aviv!

Thank you all for reading this blog. Good night!
