We continue today our series of interviews with the Romanian hopefuls for Selectia Nationala 2019!
This time we had the pleasure to interview the very talented Johnny Badulescu. Let’s have a look at what he said to us.
Hi Johnny! Thank you for taking the time to speak with us again. Now, last time we had the pleasure of speaking with you, you were a studying International Relations and European Studies. Has anything changed in your life since then?
Hello Eurovision Ireland!
I am so glad I get the chance to talk to you again and honestly I have so many new things to talk to say.
I managed to graduate the International Relations and European Studies. It wasn’t 100% my cup of tea, but it helped me grow, become a more mature person, and more than that I learned plenty of things about life during that period. So look at me now, living in the United Kingdom. I was dreaming of living here since I was 18 years old. I have also applied to 5 music universities from here back then, they all accepted me, but I decided to stay close to my parents for a little more. After ” Devoted “, I got the chance to be part of one of biggest musicals in the world, FROZEN, as Prince Hans. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I like to think that my entry from last year helped me win more than I lost when I got the 4th in the semi-final. After ” Devoted ” I managed to be part of an amazing music TV Show, ” THE four “. And now, since I moved to the UK, I got the chance to sing for the biggest music Radio in the world, BBC, and guess what? That was the first time when GIVE UP NOW was heard live.
We followed Selectia Nationala 2018 and we have to say that we were expecting you to qualify for the final. How did it feel being so close, as there was only one point difference between you and the 3rd qualifier?
As I told you before, I didn’t lose anything. I won plenty of beautiful people, I gained a lot of experience, I had one of the most incredible experiences of my life and obviously, I want to do it once more. The only thing I was upset about, was that I so wanted to sing Devoted again. I believed so bad in that song and I still think of it as one of the finalists.
Let’s talk now about something exciting. You ’ve launched your new single “Give Up Now” and now it’s in the Semi-Finals of Selectia Nationala 2019. Tell us more about this project!
The devoted boy from the last year seems like he can’t Give Up Now on his dreams. Rob Price is the one who wrote this amazing song and I am so thankful to him as he believed in me, he gave me the chance to prove my best even this year, and honestly, I think we’re doing an amazing team. Give Up Now is a guy’s love story who ends up being drained, tired, exhausted trying to win back the love of his life, the courage, and the strength is his main concerns at the same time. What do you do when you know that nothing works anymore? When you already used your last chance and when you know there’s nothing you can lose at all? You stand up and let your wings take you far from where you’ve fallen, until the day you’re going to say: YES, I DID IT! Are you hurt? Are you sad? Are you confused? I’ve been there too. Should you fight? Should you let go? Don’t! Hold on a bit more. Close your eyes, keep on believing and listen to my words.
What would it mean to you to represent Romania at Eurovision?
Only when I think of that huge, terrific, brilliant stage I start to shake. This is my biggest dream so far and I would probably won’t have enough words to describe the powerful emotions and the big responsibility of being the representer of Romania if it will come to that one day.
What would you like to say to your supporters reading this article?
I am so thankful to all of you for showing me so much support last year. You helped me be more confident, you helped me have a good performance and you helped me smile. I hope I managed to make you all feel everything I felt when I was on stage, and I hope that you don’t want me to Give Up Now and you’ll support me this year as well. I love you all, I hope this year we’re going to meet twice, and I can’t wait to talk to all of you again!!!
Thank you, Johnny and best of luck!
What do you think of Johnny’s song? Would you like him to represent Romania in Tel Aviv?
