Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK), will continue to use their invitational approach with artists for their 2019 Contest. It is currently unknown whether a group of artists will be selected for a televised final or whether one artist will be selected to present a number of songs like Saara Aalto did during the 2018 Contest.
UMK’s Producer, Anssi Autio explained his reasoning behind this decision:
“UMK 2018 showed that through the invitation contest we will be able to invest more in performances and other content. We now continue to develop the concept from this point of view.”
Saara Aalto was invited to take part in UMK this year and managed to get Finland back into the Grand Final at the Eurovision Song Contest. She finished in 25th place, with a total of 46 points.
