ROLLING BLOG – LIVE from 09:50CET

And we are off LIVE at the Saku Suurhall!!!

Song 1: Liis Lemsalu – Keep Running

Liis wears a nice glittery and neutral dress in this highly energetic performance. The stage is covered in oversized lit up ping pong balls – this does limit the amount of space Liis will have for movement during her performance. Overall though, it is a fun and bouncy number that will kick off proceedings well.

Song 2: Koit Toome & Laura – Verona

Laura is in a silver dress while Koit is in a navy blue suit with an open collar white shirt. The backing screens are lit up white so visually the performance is quite bright. After what looked like a few ear piece issues in the first run through that put Laura off, everything seems to be back on track – vocally and overall performance.

A QUICK NOTE TO SAY EACH ARTIST HAS AROUND 30 MINUTES TO REHEARSE – SO THIS LIVE ROLLING BLOG WON’T BE AS QUICKLY UPDATED AS IF WE WERE COVERING A LIVE NATIONAL FINAL.

Song 3: Whogaux & Karl-Kristjan feat. Maian – Have You Now

Karl-Kristjan and Maian use the full space given to them on the stage for the performance of various parts of the song. Various patterns are beamed on to the backing screens made up of diamonds or squares. Maian wears a black dress with a bright floral print all over and Karl-Kristjan is in a black suit and white shirt. Vocally ok, but doesn’t grab me like the two previous entries.

Song 4: Leena Kuurmaa – Slingshot

Leena performs a dark performance full of hand and feet movement – done by both herself and her backing singers – who surround her. Just like a slingshot, Leena is flung into the air and bounces up and down in the final moments of the performance. Visually  amazing.

Song 5: Daniel Levi – All I Need

For the first run through of All I Need, we have an empty stage with vocals and an appearance of Daniel near the end – this could be just due to poor camera angles though. The second run through is more successfully camera wise. Daniel performs mainly in the dark and is lit only by light beams. He is in a suit. Daniel is joined on stage by a backing band.

Song 6: Elina Born – In Or Out

Elina is on stage in a slightly revealing black number. The smoke machine has clearly been saved for In Or Out – I’m glad I am not sitting in the front rows! Dancing in and around a giant polo mint on stage that is lit up to link into and enhance the patterns on the back projections. For me the performance lacks something, but not entirely sure if it is energy or something else.

A QUICK REMINDER TO NOTE THAT EACH ARTIST HAS AROUND 30 MINUTES TO REHEARSE – SO THIS LIVE ROLLING BLOG WON’T BE AS QUICKLY UPDATED AS IF WE WERE COVERING A LIVE NATIONAL FINAL.

Song 7: Ivo Linna – Suur loterii

The sound is quite low so we can’t easily hear the vocals. Ivo is joined on stage by a band and the vibe I’m getting from the backing projection is a modern sixties look. The band are even playing and look Beatles alike. There is a bit of foot tapping but as it is a band, it does come across a slightly static performance.

A BREAK IS NOW TAKING PLACE

Song 8: Rasmus Randvee – This Love

Rasmus gives a very edgy style performance with This Love and my does it stand out. The lighting and camerawork really adds the edge to this entry and could do well because of how different it is. I really look forward to seeing how it does well with the public and jury votes while been part of the audience tomorrow night.

Song 9: Ariadne – Feel Me Now

Vocally this isn’t bad, but due to the poor camerawork in this rehearsal – its stuck at the back of the arena, I can’t really offer a visual description at the moment. Camera shots are now working. The back projection has an electro vibe to it for sure, featuring star constellation patterns and modern looking globes with added pictures. Ariadne has ripped jeans and a denim shirt on – surely not her final outfit.

Song 10: Kerli – Spirit Animal

There are drums on stage – think Love, Love, Peace, Peace! Again the final outfits are not been worn by Kerli or her backing singers/dancers – something to wait for tomorrow night. Kerli is surrounded by her backing artists and the movement they give certainly gives the ideas of spirits, along with the use of the dry ice. The element of fire is also used – the only entry to do so. Snow (well pretend snow) is also included, in fact the only element missing from the whole thing is water!

That rounds up todays rehearsal coverage. Join the team at Eurovision Ireland tomorrow night for the ROLLING LIVE BLOG of the National Final as it takes place.
