Welcome the Final in Ukraine and the show begins. Our host welcomes us and we are all ready to see who the hosts will send this year to Kiev in May. The 6 competing artists are now welcomed onto the stage. I suspect the order I have the songs is not the running order so it will change as I go on. Jamala is currently missing from the Jury. Is she backstage about to give us a song or is she still in transit from Slovenia last night? Answer is she is about to give us a song as we get a video montage of her.
A really good song from her too something fresh and modern. After a chat with Jamala we finally get started with the first song in the Final.
Song 1 – Salto Nazad – Oh Mamo
Salto is an impressive guy with a full beard and a bald head. He is accompanied by a girl with big afro style hair. This certainly seems popular with the crowd clapping away to it. It has almost a reggae style to it. I think its his real Mamo was sitting in the audience and is now on the stage dancing away to it and doing handstands. Hilarious!!!!! This is going to win lots of votes. She is from Sweden it turns out, so crazy its funny.
Song 2 – Melovin – Wonder
Next up is Melovin he is a graduate of X Factor in Ukraine. He certainly stands out with his weird eye and his shock of blond hair on one side of his head. He is apparently very popular in Ukraine so this should make it interesting if the song is any good. A modern pop song is what we have here. The vocals are good and it has a good beat to it. Yes a good song which will certainly be in the mix and has a chance to win tonight.
WE are on an extended ad break at the moment so time to go make a 3 course dinner methinks.
Song 3 – O.Torvald – Time
Now this is an interesting song too. A bit of rock now and a very emotive song. All the guys in the group have a big digital clock counting down on their chests. This is another serious contender and a very strong rock song with lots of atmosphere to it. This could well be in the mix too.
Song 4 – Illaria – Thank You For My Way
Our first female singer of the evening on next. And we have a gentle ballad which is very melodic with some breathy haunting moments. Very gentle on the ear. She looks lovely in her flowing light blue dress among smoke and a wind machine going. It then turns a bit waily and ethnic with a drumbeat going on. Certainly a song of contrast but am not sure it has that special oomph to win tonight. But still a pleasantly surprising performance.
Song 5 – Tayanna – I Love You
So female singers are like buses in Ukraine, you get none for hours then two come along one after the other(plus a mega ad break in between.) Now this is a cracking ballad really strong vocally. Tayanna has a striking red dress on. It also has some haunting ethnic sounds in there too. This smacks of winner to me. Ukraine could do so well with this in Eurovision a great singer, great production to within an inch of its life. See you in Kiev Tayanna, I love you.
Song 6 – Rozhden – Saturn
A very jolly bouncy song to finish off tonight. Quite jazzy and a good song, reminds me a bit of Jameraque. You never know it might do well and being on at the end might help too. But that’s all we have for tonight. After the jury discusses it we will go to a break for about an hour. Back around 21.25 CET for the results.
Results at 21.25-22.05 CET
WE are finally back for the results. First of all though we have Alma from France singing her entry.
All the artists are now called onto the stage. The juries are giving their thoughts.
Salto got 1 from the jury, Malovan got 2, Rozhden got 3, Illaria got 4, O.Torvald got 5 and Tayanna got 6 points.
God the jury sure like to waffle on some here. What on earth are they saying?
So before we get the public result we have Kasa Mos from Poland singing her Eurovision entry.
So to the public result. Illaria gets 1 point making 5 in total. Rozhdan get 2 making 5. Salto gets 3 making 4 in total.
Tayanna gets 4 points making 10 points. O.Torwald get 5 points giving then 10 points too. Malovan gets 6 giving him 8 in total. So we have a tie.
O.Torvald are the winners. The public vote wins it for them.
Well done to them we have some rock in Kiev and good luck to Ukraine.
