We know you were all excited when YLE announced the 10 acts competing at Finnish Eurovision selection event Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu – because we certainly were!

We had the great pleasure of getting in touch with one of the acts from next year’s event –  Norma John – and this is what they had to say!

Can you tell us more about yourselves? Who is Norma John? 

Norma John is a Finnish Indie/pop band with a melancholic twist. We’re two musicians and old friends, Lasse and Leena, together Norma John. We’ve known each other since high school and that’s when we started making music together.

When did you discover your passion for singing?

Both of us have been making music ever since we were kids, so it has always been a big part of us.

As you are both Eurovision hopefuls, what is your favourite song to have come out of the contest?

There have been many great songs, but just to name a few; Euphoria by Loreen and Birds by Anouk.

What are your favourite treats?

Finnish speciality, salmiakki. (It’s a kind of salty liquorice)

Sounds yummy! Can you tell us more about your song and how it came to be? 

The song is about a breakup and the feeling when everything you do seems to remind you of that one person even though you are trying your very best to forget. It’s melancholic but also re-empowering in it´s own beautiful way.

You probably know that the staging can win or break a song. Do you think you’ll be able to transmit your emotions to the public with the staging? 

We are one hundred percent sure that we will be able to convey the feeling of the song on stage. The lyrics are very strong so it doesn’t need a whole lot of action around it, the song will speak for it self.
