Who do we have rehearsing today?
Well, you thought this contest was lacking a lot of yellow lights, then that’s because Frans has them all to himself! It’s hard to judge this for the umpteenth time, but the teenage girls will swoon all over him – even the mums and grandmas around us all too. It is nice to have someone able to pronounce his words too – but as John says “it’s 50 shades of bland” and won’t challenge for the win.
France still lacks a certain something as I can’t really see this winning with this staging. It’s simple and simple works for some, like Italy, which you’ll see later on, but simple doesn’t work for others. This is a song that seems to have been stretched longer than it was needed and with the space element of the background – I hate to say, but it looks Lost in Space.
This is the best thing we have seen so far today, however if it’s anything to judge on first rehearsals, we still have another cracker to come. Spain seems to be a lot more polished than Friday evening and the technical aspect of the performance has improved. This is an upbeat floor filler just like Belgium. If Belgium qualified from Semi Final 2, I hope they are at opposite ends of the running order not to harm their chances.
Germany has stuck with it’s National Final staging, just like yesterday as well. For me, this is the less impressive we have seen so far in terms that nothing has progressed from the National Final season. The best two for me are still to come (in my opinion).
Just as beautiful and as simple as yesterday, this has to be the Jury Winner if not better. Somebody in the Press Centre has just described it as Teletubbies meets Blue Peter – this just shows how innocent a performance it is.
More standing lights have been added to the back of the stage for this second set of rehearsals. Joe and Jake are really in full flow now and are having fantastic fun. For the first time in years, the pyrotechnics have been used sensibly and not just before the sake of it like the previous couple of years. The UK can be proud this year.
