Ok Sanna goes all En Vogue on us. Now be VERY CAREFUL as they are one of my FAVOURITE BANDS!
Sanna swears and I don’t mean on the Bible. I like this unsanitized Sanna!
1. “Don’t Say No” – Midnight Boy
Well this is one for the 80’s kids out there. Do you remember Dead or Alive and their ‘You Spin Me Right Round’? Well mix in some Madonna – back in the days when she could take off a cape and walk a set of stairs unassisted and you have this homage to the 80’s. With enough bling to blind the back of the stadium this was camp disco and the Alcazar of this year. Yeah I loved it 😉
2. “Black Swan” – Caroline Wennergren
Caroline has enough gravel in her vocals to build a road from Sweden to Vienna! She sounds like she drinks a bottle of whiskey to wake up in the morning. This is bluesy and sassy and has an old school RnB vibe with some Any Winehouse. A good song but not sure how Sweden will go for it.
3. “Building It Up” – JTR
They are the Swedish Jonas Brothers – No they are actually 3 brothers. Every teenage girl in Sweden has just passed out! They are handsome devils and cheeky as hell. The Look Good, The can do the Crotch grab, They have the hair and can fit into skinny jeans with style. A catchy song to boot too! What else could be lacking – Oh yeah GOOD VOCALS! They were lost at times like a plane over the Bermuda Triangle. Saying that they are going through tonight!
4. “Guld och gröna skogar” – Hasse Andersson
Old School Swedish Folk Schlager. The Swedes will love this like a pickled herring sandwich with some reindeer meatballs. It is your Dad at a Wedding after a few drinks of champagne! It was country and western and as cheesy as it comes. When I say cheesy I mean Swiss, Dutch and Italian cheese! Watch this score well!
5. “Make Me (La La La)” – Dinah Nah
Dr Alban is to thank or is that blame for this song. Dressed like she is going to the gym and looking like she is old enough to know better. Am I being harsh? It was very 90’s techno in parts and it was trying to be 2 Unlimited but was more 1 very limited performance. Going nowhere quickly for me except in reverse 😦
6. “Ett andetag” – Annika Herlitz
As my mother always said “Blue and Green should never be seen”. This is a WINNER – If we were looking for a Eurovision song for the 1990’s. I couldn’t get excited about this song at all. A shame as I like some of Annika’s previous work. It was all very dated and uninspiring. Come on Melodifestivalen – you can do better! Oh wait here he comes!
7. “Heroes” – Måns Zelmerlöw
Like a fine wine Mans has matured VERY NICELY! Since he took himself to Spain to record his own style of music he is now for interesting that the ‘Hope and Glory’ days. This is a quirky song. A bit of a blue grass twand coupled with some Coldplay and pop. The visuals were #FANTASTIC and made this not just a song but a performance. Going straight to the final and for me the only contender to Jon Henrik Fjällgren in Melodifestivalen. Good Job Mans
Interval Time -Love Her even though I don’t know what she says!
Ok – I think the 2 Direct Finalists are easy to see here. I would say that the Swedes will send
“Heroes” – Måns Zelmerlöw and
“Guld och gröna skogar” – Hasse Andersson
As for the Second Round
“Building It Up” – JTR and
“Don’t Say No” – Midnight Boy (My Wildcard as we need more camp in MF this year)
First Set of Results In
Direct To Final
“Building It Up” – JTR
“Heroes” – Måns Zelmerlöw
“Make Me (La La La)” – Dinah Nah
“Guld och gröna skogar” – Hasse Andersson
Did Sweden get it right? Have we seen a winner of Melodifestivalen? Is there a Eurovision winner there? Let us know. Hope you enjoyed the night.
