UK : MKS “Flatline” Jade Ewen’s post Eurovision/Sugababes Career

Jade Ewen brought the UK to the Top 5 at Eurovision in 2009 – something yet to be replicated by another UK performer since then. Following Eurovision, Jade became the 6th female singer to join the ever evolving UK supergroup Sugababes.

It all started positively for Jade in the band and their first single together”About a Girl” went Top 10 in the UK and #14 in Ireland. The follow-up “Wear My Kiss” went Top 10 in both countries. However that is where things seemed to go downhill. No further singles came from the band.

Jade Ewen told Digital Spy “I don’t even know if the band stuff is going to happen again, if I’m completely honest. I think Amelle wants to do her own solo stuff, Heidi is doing a Happy Days musical… I think we’re pretty much done. I’m working on solo material at the moment actually. It’s only come about in the past three weeks, so it’s quite a new project. No one’s really seen me yet. I sang for Eurovision, I’ve been in a band, but I don’t think anyone really knows what I’m about.”

The very original Sugababes have now reformed under the name of MKS – representing the initials of the 3 singers Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan. They performed their first promotional concert at Scala in London last Thursday. The gig has received rave reviews and there seems to be a hunger for the original Sugababes even if they don’t own the right to the name. Here they are performing “Freak Like Me” last Thursday

Their first single will be “Flatline” which seems to be the final nail in coffin of Jade and the Sugababes career.

We all know that Jade Ewen defended Eurovision through her very public Twitter cat fights with Rita Ora over the year, so could Eurovision be another option for Jade to relaunch herself? Well we think so, but the real Jade Ewen music needs to come to the forefront! “It’s my Time” was somewhat dated for a young singer like Jade. The songs with the Sugababes never showcased her love of old style RnB – especially the old Washington sound that she has a kindred spirit and love for. She demonstrated this perfectly in the 2009 UK Eurovision National Selection when she performed Beyoncé’s “Déjà vu” – which is the genre that Jade resonates.
