Lou Bega and “Mambo Number 5” could be reinvented for Eurovision 2014 if the reports coming through today are real. German Broadcaster NDR have already asked all German record companies to suggest artists for the German National Selection for Eurovision 2014.
Now it appears that Sony Music Germany have put forward the artist “Lou Bega” as a potential candidate. Bega shot to fame with his huge #1 “Mambo Number 5” that hit the top of the charts in 19 countries and even went to #3 in America. Follow up success was not so forthcoming.
News agency Promipool.de has recently been in contact with Lou Bega who in turn stated that he was “actually asked by his record company’ to participate in Eurovision 2014. He has released 5 studio albums with the last being “A Little bit of 80’s”.
NDR have not yet announced any formal details for the German Eurovision 2014 entrant except that they will be in Denmark.
Would Lou Bega be a good entry for Eurovision? Everyone will know who he is and that in itself will garner a lot of interest in the German act. Good to see that NDR are not obsessing with their low (though undeserved) scoring at Eurovision 2013.
