Russia’s Dina Garipova has just taken to the stage for her first Eurovision rehearsal and she was – like a Eurovision presenter would say “amazing”. Dina was in a white dress which is laced on the top and chiffon on the bottom. On the stage they have brought in 2 banks of giant spheres/balloons that are suspended from the ground to give the effect that they are floating.
The 4 backing singers – 2 men and 2 women are standing behind the spheres which does a little at times look messy with some camera angles – as it appears as if they are being caught on the camera sporadically. I would suggest that they stay off stage until they make their appearance.
When they do arrive they form a line with Dina. As the rehearsals continued one of the male backing singers “dropped the ball” – literally! They male backing singers are carrying smaller floating balls like the larger ones on stage – well he dropped his to the giggles of the press. When he picked it up he just threw it away. However it now appears that they will be handing the glowing orbs to Dina who will raise them up. All very Davide Blane meets Disney.
Dina had some problems with her ear piece as it kept falling off yet she did not miss a beat or a note which shows her musicality. Her English diction was perfect. In the last rehearsal we saw her show dress – light grey with a jewelled neckline. She then gave us a classic Eurovision moment when all the performers joined hands at the end of the song. You can’t beat those classic moments.
I have to admit that this song has shown growth since we first heard it and will make the final for sure and could be a contender if the backing singers and the props are tightened up. The best vocals of the day so far.
