Agnetha Faltskog of Abba fame returns to Eurovision 2013 with the release of her new material in over 9 years. Is this a coincidence? Yesterday saw Agnetha release the song “When You Really Loved Someone” – which one would describe as a ballad with a hint of Abba’s “The Day Before You Came” – which is a personal favorite. However what makes this more interesting is that it is taken from Agnetha’s upcoming album “A” which is being released on May 13th – just right as Eurovision week begins! Rumors are now circulating that she may be involved in Eurovision in some context.
Abba had been courted by many record labels to reform over the years since they split with vast amounts of money being offered to them. However Agnetha had always been the artist whom had reservations as being in the constant spotlight had made her anxious and touring was something that she did not relish. Her last album over 9 years ago was not proceeded with mass touring or promotion but this seems to be unlikely this time around. Here is her first release which is available to download since yesterday “When You Really Loved Someone”
When you have a writer like Grammy Award Winner Jorgen Elofsson writing with you this is a big deal. Jorgen has written for Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion and Westlife to name but a few – you know that this is an album that the record company has put a lot of time, money and effort into.
Elofsson commented on Noise11 stating ” She wanted to make music again, We could feel that. She had been thinking about it. Basically she is a musician, who hasn’t done that for a while. We saw her open up, become much happier with music again in her life”
Huge expectation is growing for the release of her album that will firstly come out in the USA in Spring by The Verve Music Group and then Internationally by Universal Music Group. “A” was fully produced by Jorgen Olofsson and Peter Nordahl.
Is there a hunger for Agnetha’s new material in the market? If the first release of “When You Really Loved Someone” is a taster of things to come from the album “A” than I think the answer is yes. However the big question now is – will ABBA or Agnetha be at Eurovision 2013? Could we see this again at Eurovision?
