Evtim Miloshev, the Bulgarian Minister of Culture, has revealed that the EBU, the European Broadcasting Union, have inspected Sofia, with Burgas to follow.
The host city inspections allow officials to evaluate venue facilities, transport links, accommodation capacity and wider infrastructure. Sofia’s bid centres on Arena Sofia, which previously hosted the 2015 Junior Eurovision Song Contest and has a concert capacity of almost 18,000 spectators. Sofia also highlighted its established transport network, international airport and experience hosting major international events.
Evtim Miloshev had the following to say during a broadcast of Tazi Sutrina, on bTv:
“The state has taken the first two very important steps. This body has been created to support the organisation at ministerial level. The Ministry of Culture has transferred 20 million euros for Eurovision. Only Sofia and Burgas remain in contention.
Regarding Sofia’s bid, representatives from the EBU examined the bid during a visit to the National Palace of Culture. They will soon do the same in Burgas.”
