Yle, the Finnish national broadcaster, have appointed a new executive supervisor, ahead of UMK 2027 – their national selection for the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest.
FOLLOWING Anssi Autio stepping away as UMK executive supervisor earlier this month, Yle have announced Mikko Silvennoinen as his successor. Mikko Silvennoinen has been the Finnish-language commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest and UMK since 2016 – a decision on whether he will continue in the role, will be decided in the autumn. Mikko Silvennoinen had the following to say:
“My job is just not to mess it up. I would like UMK to open up even more. Let’s open the door for professionals even more, because it’s good enough to be that open.
Eurovision and UMK have not always been as popular as they are now. Still, the fans have been able to support and cheer them on, even in the years when Finland has not made it to the Eurovision Song Contest final, for example.”
