#BIRTHDAY: 26 Apr – Raiven from Slovenia is 30
Most viewers who tune into our favourite TV show are just casual viewers. They haven’t been picking apart the songs for months, comparing them to each other and heading around Europe to stalk watch their favourite acts. So it’s all about three (or maybe six) minutes to make an impression.
With that in mind, some singers turn their staging into performance art. And if there’s a story to be told, even better. Today’s birthday girl Raivan (née Sara Briški Cirman) put on some stage show when we were last in Malmö. It is said that she was singing about a medieval witch called Veronika. Was her three minutes enough to propel her to the Grand Final? Yes – just, she finished ninth. But make the Grand Final she did and, even though she finished 23rd, she was almost liked equally by both jurors and televoters. So, performance art pays, right?
