#BIRTHDAY: Petra Frey from Austria is 44 today

Sometimes when we’re picking a birthday song, it makes us feel old. I’ve been watching contests since 19xx so have seen a few acts in my time. And some of them are a lot older now than I thought they were.

Today’s song comes from 1994, when we were on the biggest ever stage (at the time) in Dublin. It made me wonder why they needed such a big stage when only six people are allowed on it per song. And then came Riverdance… Anyway, today’s birthday girl Petra Frey was only 16 when she sang on that stage. She’d found her feet by 2003 when she tried again. But the casual viewer will only ever remember Petra ‘Petrified’ Frey.
