The President of Spanish national broadcaster, RTVE, has confirmed to newspaper Faro De Vigo, that RTVE will not be pursuing hosting the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. The hosting of the 2023 Contest is currently uncertain, due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
José Manuel Pérez Tornero, President of RTVE, had the following to say:
“We don’t want to be left with the mirage of a good result, we’re going to go for a win next time. We were also interested in organising it, but in the end if Ukraine resigns, it will be the BBC that organises it and we are going to split up our strength. We are going to try to launch a similar festival for Latin America and compete as best as we can in the next Eurovision.”
While José Manuel Pérez Tornero mentioned that the BBC should host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in the United Kingdom in the event Ukraine can’t, this has yet to be mentioned by either the European Broadcasting Union or the BBC.
