#Dance: When Eurovision meets Strictly Come Dancing .

As those of us who are fans are aware, Strictly Come Dancing returned to UK TV screens in September and through out the weeks so far, we at Eurovision Ireland, have been watching out for any connections between Eurovision and the UK’s very popular dance competition , starting with one of Måneskin’s songs “Beggin'” being used as the track for the Cha Cha performed by Adam Peaty and Katya Jones in the first week of the competition. The couple featured again in the next Eurovision/Strictly link when they danced a Viennese Waltz to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata in the Halloween week show , where Katya’s choreography included her emerging from the inside of a piano. We had seen similar choreography in Athens 2006 when Dima Bilan sang to a ghost like figurine emerging from the piano .

This week, when looking at the credentials of Strictly Judge Motsi Mabuse , who has previously sat on the judging panel of the German equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing “Let’s Dance “, it transpired that in 2007, Motsi took part as one of the professional dancers on the show and her partner was someone who is very well known to the Eurovision world and who represented Germany in the 1998 contest in Birmingham, United Kingdom . Yes, you’ve guessed it , none other than Guildo Horn , who finished in a very respectable 7th place in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Guildo hat euch lieb” ! Just to refresh our memories , here’s his performance at the contest in Birmingham in 1998.

When taking part in “Let’s Dance in 2007, Guildo went one better and finished in 6th place overall after he and Motsi were eliminated in the 5th show. Unfortunately, we are unable to locate any videos of their performances but you can see an image of them below.

There was also another interesting piece of information that we found in our Strictly meets Eurovision research. Did you know that Bobbysox, who won Eurovision for Norway in 1985 with what is now an iconic Eurovision song “L’a det Swinge” , recorded their own version of the song “Don’t bring Lulu”, which AJ Odudu and her Professional partner Kai Widdrington performed their Charleston to in week 7 of the competition .

What do you think? Do you think there are any more Eurovision/Strictly Come Dancing connections that we have yet to find? Keep watching out for more Eurovision/Strictly connections in the remaining weeks leading up to the Strictly Come Dancing 2021 Final !
