BIRTHDAY: Gérard Lenorman is 75 today
Our favourite TV show has a rich history, and it’s good to dig deep sometimes, to pick out those songs you won’t here every day. They won’t feature in a Top 250, or in a Eurovision disco. But they’re still valued.
Back in 1988, when the contest was a safe thing with a respectful audience with no flags or inflatable hammers, and an orchestra, we were our west in sunny Dublin. A certain Canadian (eh?) won the thing, but further down were other songs in French. One came from today’s birthday boy Gérard Lenorman (né Gérard Christian Éric Lenormand). he was a charmer, he tells us, spreading love and happiness whenever he picked up a microphone. These days, his song would have made the left-hand side of the scoreboard, but he was beaten by two other songs in French. Nevertheless, as he once wrote a song for Brigitte Bardot, he’s probably had the last laugh.
