BIRTHDAY: Kati Wolf from Hungary is 45 today

There’s a word that is used in a derogatory fashion to describe some songs that elements of the fan community think are wonderful and will win the contest by 800 points. I’m not going to use that word here.

Today’s song isn’t that word, at least as far as I’m concerned. However, many thought it would do better than it did. Today’s birthday girl Katalin ‘Kati’ Wolf made the final, which was something Hungary had not always done in the previous few years – when they participated. Kati, however, blazed a trail to the final that was only broken in Tel Aviv. Only one Magyar song qualifying from a semi-final has done worse in a final, which surprised many over Kati’s song. But wherever she finished, you can still find her song at any worthy Eurovision disco.
