Eurovision 2019

#SLOVENIA – LIVE BLOG of #EMA2019 FINAL from 20:00 CET #JoinUs

Dober večer v Evropi! Dobro jutro Avstralija!

Tonight Slovenia decides who’s going to win Evrovizijska Melodija (EMA) 2019 and be the Slovene representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 this May in Tel Aviv!

It’s time for you to sit back and relax and let Eurovision Ireland’s own Mr. B entertain you with his comments.

So what can we expect from tonight’s show you might ask? Let’s find out!

Ten acts will compete for the Slovenian ticket to Tel Aviv tonight:

  1. Kim – Rhythm back to you
  2. Renata Mohorič – Three bridges
  3. René – Ne poveš (You don’t say)
  4. Fed Horses – Ti ne poznaš konjev (You don’t know the horses)
  5. Ula Ložar – Fridays
  6. Lumberjack – Lepote DNA (The beauty of the bottom)
  7. Okusticni – Metulji plešejo (Butterflies are dancing)
  8. INMATE – Atma
  9. Zara Kralj & Gašper Šantl – Sebi (Oneself)
  10. Raiven – Kaos (Chaos)

Tonight’s winner will be chosen by two rounds of voting. In the first round, the jury panel will select two finalists out of the ten to proceed to the Superfinal. Each juror assigns a score of 1 (lowest score) to 5 (highest score) to each song, with the top two being determined by the songs that receive the highest overall scores when all the jury votes are combined. In case of a tie break, the song(s) that achieve a higher number of top scores will be chosen as the winning one.

In the Superfinal, the winner will be determined by 100% televoting.

The show will be hosted by actress and TV hostess Ajda Smrekar.

EMA 2019 will begin at 20:00 CET and can be watched here or here!

LIVE BLOG STARTS HERE!!

Hello Europe, hello Australia, hello world!

Get your snacks and drinks, maybe a cozy blanket and get ready for EMA 2019! I’m Mr. B and tonight we’re going to find out Slovenia’s representative at Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv!

Just a few more minutes left. Stay tuned!

And we’re live with the beautiful Ajda Smrekar dancing for us on a remix of Hvala Ne!

We’re now presented the 3 members of the jury and you can all recognize Lea Sirk the Slovene representative from 2018.

And we started with song number 1

Kim – Rhythm back to you

Kim’s song sounds very contemporary and I’m enjoying its rhythm and the repetitive “youuuuuuu”

Has a key change as well, so it has the potential to tick lots of boxes. I’m enjoying this one and Kim’s doing a good job selling her performance. We could see some sparks as well.

A very good start for EMA 2019. A thumbs up from me for Kim!

Renata Mohorič – Three bridges

We have a slow guitar rock-ish song and some shaky vocals so far. Renata reminds me of the singer of 4 Non Blondes and her sound is similar. This is so 90’s ballad. I appreciate her effort and the conviction that she’s giving us tonight, but maybe I’m not convinced after the explosive song we’ve had previously.

René – Ne poveš (You don’t say)

This sounds like a Justin Timberlake B side song. Still, it’s enjoyable but doesn’t really go anywhere.

Rene is doing his best to entertain us alongside his two dancers. I like his confidence and the purple sparkly costume that he’s wearing.

I’m not sure about this song, but the public seemed to enjoy it.

And we have our first ad break! 🙂

We continue now with song number 4:

Fed Horses – Ti ne poznaš konjev (You don’t know the horses)

Oh, I love the singer’s voice! So warm and appealing!

The song has a pop-country vibe and I quite enjoy this. I must admit I haven’t listened any of the songs from tonight’s EMA, so you’re getting- my honest first – raw opinion. 🙂 Aren’t you lucky?

This song sounds like a chant almost. I’m spellbound 🙂

Ula Ložar – Fridays

This is giving me electro-country-pop-folk feeling. The public is clapping along from the first beats. This is so Caro Emerald all the way!

Ula is channeling her inner diva and I’m entertained. That’s what is all about! I can definitely see this in the Superfinal. Whap-pap-pararam-pap!

The jury was asked to give their opinion so far. They all agreed that it was diverse and it’s a good effort. (But what do I know? I can’t speak Slovene! 🙂

Lumberjack – Lepote DNA (The beauty of the bottom)

Long live the old rock sound! This has such a ‘we’ve all heard it all before’ rock sound written on it and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’m enjoying it, but I don’t think this is what Slovenia needs to send to Eurovision. A little bit too predictable and forgettable.

Okusticni – Metulji plešejo (Butterflies are dancing)

This song is sweet. A little gem, soft and delicate. Too bad the singers didn’t connect more with each other. I don’t see this as a huge contender for the Superfinal, but I’ve honestly enjoyed its calm and the state it induced upon me.

Back to another ad break. They love Lidl! To be honest, I enjoy shopping there as well (sometimes – because I don’t live near one). No, this message was not sponsored :))

INMATE – Atma

Well, Slovenia loves to rock tonight. This one has good graphics on the background, but as much as I try to like it, the flashing lights and the constant chance of camera angles make me dizzy. I appreciate the effort, but it’s not my cup of tea.

Zara Kralj & Gašper Šantl – Sebi (Oneself)

The crowd claps again from the first beats. This is quite magical and dreamy. Not sure though if this would do well on the big stage. It has nothing to stand out as all is almost whispered – this is getting a little bit too predictive.

Raiven – Kaos (Chaos)

We’re at the last act of tonight’s final. Raiven sounds hypnotic on the verses. I think she’s trying to channel a bit of Hvala ne from last year, but I prefer the latter to be honest. Raiven was good, but the song lacked the wow factor.

Those were all the contestants! Out of all these, the jury will select only two to go next to the Superfinal. Who will go to the final battle?

We see now a recap of all the songs. Have to be attentive to give my prediction!

Now that I’ve refreshed my memory the two acts I want to see in the final are: Kim – Rhythm back to you (song 1) and Ula Ložar – Fridays (song5)

Whilst the jury decides, we’re now entertained by some interesting act. Let’s leave it that way 🙂

Who would you like to see in the Superfinal?

The first Superfinalist is:

Zara Kralj & Gašper Šantl – Sebi (Oneself)

The second Superfinalist will be announced after the ad break.

I have to say I’m a little bit surprised by the first choice. It’s not bad, but was expecting something else. Let’s see who’s the next act to qualify to the Superfinal. I am really curious.

The second Superfinalist is Raiven – Kaos.

Why? I can’t believe Ula is not in the Superfinal! Really disappointed.

Now we’re hearing again Zara Kralj & Gašper Šantl – Sebi (Oneself).

Next, Raiven will be singing her song Kaos.

I’m trying to make my own decison in my mind. Who do I prefer?

I have a feeling Raiven might win tonight as she has a better reaction from the public in the audience. We’ll see what the public at home will decide.

If you’re in Slovenia, now it’s time to vote!

Whilst the public votes, we have an interval act with a man who can imitate the voice of different singers. I’m not sure if scared of not!?

Now we hear Lea Sirk and her latest single in English mashed up with Hvala, ne!

This is a mini concert from Lea and she’s not shy to send her dancers in the spotlight.

Time now for another ad break, but I think soon we will find out Slovenia’s representative.

Someone asked me who would I prefer to go. Well my answer is
Zara Kralj & Gašper Šantl – Sebi , just because Raiven reminds me too much of Hvala, ne!

And yes, I’m still upset that Ula Ložar with Fridays is not amongst the Superfinalists!

Yes!
Zara Kralj & Gašper Šantl – Sebi are the winners!

Congratulations and see you in Tel Aviv!

Thank you, everyone, for reading this blog. Was an interesting night and I’ve enjoyed the show!

See you tomorrow at Selectia Nationala!

Bye and Good Night!
