Earlier this week, we wrote about the potential problem that Yuliya Samoilova’s singing for Russia at Eurovision 2018 could pose for Ukraine as a result of last year’s drama at the contest in Kyiv.
Well, turns out we were not the only ones concerned! Our friends over at EuroVoix contacted Ukraine’s broadcaster UA:PBC to ask what this could mean – and we’re delighted to say the broadcaster has allayed everyone’s fears and Ukraine WILL be present in Portugal!
UA:PBC confirmed that Yuliya Samoilova’s being selected to sing for Russia in Lisbon will present no problems for Ukraine, and they will broadcast the contest in full this May. This means that the number of countries heading to Lisbon in May remains 43, equalling the number of contestants from both 2008 and 2011.
Are you looking forward to Vidbir 2018? Who would you like to see sing for Ukraine in Lisbon?
Let us know what you think!
