Eurovision Ireland are here in Malta to cover the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Valetta. The rehearsals begin on Tuesday 15th November and run for 4 days. So in advance of that and in a similar vein to articles published for the main Eurovision I am going to look at each participating country and highlight their entry this year and look back at their history in JESC. There are 17 countries competing in JESC 2016 and I will look at each country in a brief series of 4 articles in the coming few days. This article will look at Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria and Armenia. You can check out the other articles in this JESC series on the Eurovision Ireland website
Albania are making their third appearance in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Their best result was last year when they finished in 5th place. This year Albania are represented by Klesta Qehaja who is only 10 year old and was born in Kosovo. Her song is called Besoj.
“BELIEVE, BELIEVE LOVE WILL WIN EVENTUALLY
BELIEVE, BELIEVE SUN WILL RISE UP DIFFERENTLY
LET LOVE, LET LOVE, LET LOVE,
MAKE THE CHANGE FOR YOU AND ME”
So we also take a look back to last year when Albania got their best result. Mishela Rapo came 5th with the song Dambaje.
Belarus are the second country never to have missed participating at Junior Eurovision so have competed fourteen times. They have won it twice in 2005 and 2007 and hosted it in Minsk in 2010. This year they are represented by Alexander Minyonok who is 13 and lives in Minsk. His song is called Musyka Moih Pobed( Music is my only way).
“GOING UP HIGH
LEARNING TO FLY
I WILL RAISE MY FLAG OF MUSIC TO THE SKY
THIS IS MY WAY”
So we take a look back to Belarus’ first win in 2005. They also won in 2007 and have also come 2nd twice and 3rd twice also. Ksenia Sitnik sang their first winner titled My Vmeste.
Bulgaria are making their sixth appearance in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Their best finish was 2nd in 2014 when we were last in Malta and then hosted it in Sofia last year. This year they are represented by Lidia Ganeva who is 10 years old from Plovdiv. Her song is called Magical Day.
“I BELIEVE THERE ARE MIRACLES
IN EVERY FAIRYTALE
LET’S GIVE ALL CHILDREN
ONE MAGICAL DAY”
So we also take a look back to 2014 when Krisia, Hasan & Ibrahim came 2nd with the song titled Planet of the Children.
Armenia are making their tenth appearance in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. They have one of the best track records having won it in 2010, come 2nd on three occasions and 3rd twice too. They hosted the contest in 2011 in Yerevan. This year Armenia are represented by Anahit and Mary with the song Tarber. Anahit is 13 years old and was born in Sochi, Russia and Mary is also 13 years old and was born in Vardenis.
“I SAID WE WOULD ALWAYS HAVE OUR OWN WAYS,
BECAUSE WE ARE DIFFERENT, BUT NOT INDIFFERENT
WE WILL ALWAYS LIVE IN ONE SPACE ,
BECAUSE LOVE IS BIGGER THAN ANY DIFFERENCE.”
So we also take a look back at the song that won for Armenia in 2010. Vladimir Arzumanyan sang the song Mama.
