MACEDONIA : Grammy Winners from ‘Blackstreet’ will join Daniel Kajmakoski on stage at Eurovision

THUMP – That is the sound of me fainting and falling to the floor! Macedonia’s Daniel Kajmakoski was planning something BIG when he visited the American Embassy in Vienna last week but #BuildingBridges just got a whole lot funkier!

The Grammy award-winning artists MERJ (formerly BLACKSTREET) have officially announced that they will perform ‘Autumn Leaves’ with Daniel Kajmakoski at the first Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna on 19 May! #Fabulous

For any of you out there who saw my interview with Daniel in Amsterdam, we tried to sing some ‘No Diggity’ from the one and only Blackstreet – Daniel succeeded and I failed miserably! Thankfully my performance didn’t deter Mark Middleton, Eric Williams and Jeremy Hanna or simply “MERJ” from wanting to work with Daniel at Eurovision 2015 for Macedonia.

MERJ (as Blackstreet are now called) are music veterans with over 20 years of experience as performers, publishers, producers and writers. “They have come together to bring the soulful experience of the R&B male groups back to the mainstream of music, radio and stage. For sure, you remember the all time legendary song “No diggity””

What have MERJ been doing since Blackstreet went a little quiet on us? Well the answer is “Working With the Worlds BIGGEST stars”. Marc, Eric and Jeremy have written and produced songs for great artists like Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown, Blackstreet, the international rap diva Vibe, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Jaheim, Guy, Next, Donnell Jones and Dave Hollister. Can I just say that this is like reading the playlist from my iTunes!

In case you need a music lesson on the amazing Blackstreet – they were and still are trail blazers of American RnB who dominated the charts globally. As for their awards – Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Europe Video Music Awards, Billboard, Soul Train awards, BMI, ASCAP awards and many many many more.

You may remember that Daniel released the charity song ‘Carry The Flame’ in April of this year with the US R&B group MERJ, and Bulgarian singer Bobo, as part of a campaign for the Holiday Heroes Foundation in Bulgaria. The purpose of the campaign and the Foundation, is to aid socially disadvantaged families. Bravo Guys!

So what has Daniel to say on his Eurovision experience with MERJ on board?

“I still can’t believe that my biggest wish will soon become reality! These incredibly talented musicians have always been my idols, I grew up with their music and now I am performing with them on Eurovision stage! Performing with idols is a dream comes true for every artist!”

Oh but wait! There is MORE!

We have details on how Daniel will be staging ‘Autumn Leaves’ on stage at Eurovision in Vienna

Mojca Horvat, established choreographer and stage director, is creating the stage performance for Macedonia at Eurovision. Mojca has worked extensively choreographing major musicals in Broadway plus the opening of The Winter Olympic Games.

“The stage performance will follow the emotion of the song, because it’s a ballade we will try to create a bit of mystery and playing with lights on stage.” – says Mojca Horvat.

Ivana Rabrenovik comes from The X Factor and will be styling Daniel and the team for Vienna. They met and started working together since the regional shows of X-Factor Adria – That Daniel Won!. Rabrenovic has worked on Eurovision projects before as she was part of the Macedonian delegation last year with Tijana Dapcevik in Copenhagen, but had the winning touch as part of the team in 2007 with the winner of the contest Marija Serifovik.

“We will generally use three colors for Daniel and his backing vocals, that is: black, grey and white and some small details. I believe that these three colors look best on the camera. My goal is they looking classy and feel good during the whole performance “, said Ivana Rabrenovic.

Daniel Kajmakoski and MERJ have taken #BuildingBridges to the next level and have brought the United States of America to the Eurovision Song Contest!

Are we excited? Hell Yeah!

  1. THERE HAS BEEN A MISTAKE IN THE TYPING…. ERIC AND MARK FROM BACKSTREET WILL BE PERFORMING AUTUMN LEAVES WITH DANIEL AS MERJ ON EURO VISION.. BUT MERJ IS NOT FORMALLY BACKSTREET… BACKSTREET IS STILL BLACKSTREET.. MERJ IS A GROUP THAT ERIC AND MARK CREATED ALONG WITH J REMY… STAY TUNED!!!!!

  2. Very modern song with intelligent text and story. This is definitely my number 1 at ESC 2015th
MACEDONIA 12 points from Klagenfurt! 🙂

  3. I must be getting very old, but this ruines the song completely for me !
I liked it best (in fact it was one of my favourites) at first when it won Skopjefest. Then they slowed it down and went for an english version, I liked it much less, but OK, it just dropped a place or 10 in my list.
Now it’s at the bottom. Sorry, it’s going to be a toiletbreak for me.
